How do you practice reading comprehension in 4th grade?

Reading skills belongs to the ones that 4th graders should master. Therefore, giving them some recommended books to read is not enough. Arrange activities to make the kids engage with the materials you gave also needed.

Reading comprehension boosts students reading skills while also making them understand the materials you gave. Some best activities should involve in your class. Here are the recommendations.

Having a roll and retell worksheet would make the students have fun while also learning. This is a worksheet that you can use to make the students review the story. Use the dice as the fun element that is also put through the worksheet.

List the question that relates to the book with the dice point to define the questions. Divide the students into groups. Provide the dice based on the group amount. Each student needs to flip the dice and match it with the worksheet.

Build and explain could be done in various ways. Have the cup paper stack with the object on it. Make the students explain the symbol’s name while also making it the topic for making the story.

How can students improve their reading skills?

The teacher has the role to teach students any knowledge, including reading skills. While a student does not master the skill yet, it’s your job to make them understand besides their parents. Therefore, seeking some effective ways to boost the students reading skills is also a must.

Make your students understand note-taking and highlight the important phrases or sentences they found in the book. Allow them to ask questions about the new things they find in the book.

After asking, requires them to have some notes out of it. You could also suggest they personalize their content. In this case, they could write complex sentences into words they easily understand. Writing the explanation directly in the book would make them easily re-read the text.

Problem-solving skills also need to master by the students. Arrange a group discussion about a problem and let them pull off their group work to solve it. Have some questions so the students can set their reading goals, that is to be able to answer the questions you gave to them.
