Memory games are the favorite game of most children. This so called mind or brain game helps develop concentration and memory support. This simple learning game positively heightens retention while letting the child indulge in a fun filled activity. In addition, it also advances their vocabulary. Well, you don’t need to go that far to get your hands on a memory game sheet. The Memory game sheet is an easy printable craft you can prepare using a word processing program or through Photoshop.
Materials you will need:
Plain paper
Inkjet Printer
Creating the game sheet:
- Choose a theme for your memory game. Think of a location as your theme and use this as the background of your game sheet. The bedroom, castle, forest or garden are typical themes.
- Open your web browser and search for a background image. Make sure that it is in cartoon and wide enough for you will be using cliparts. Choose one that you like. Then save the image in your PC’s folder.
- Open a new word document and insert the image for your background. There are already a number of supplementary images on the background so all that is left for you to do is to crowd it with related cliparts or cartoon images. For instance, if you opt for a bedroom theme, add images commonly seen in a bedroom – wall frames, books, clothes, shoes and toys. Spread them all over the page but make sure they do not cover each other. It should look something like this:
- Adjust and resize if necessary. Once done, hit print.
Object lists:
- The list of objects can be written in the same page of the memory sheet or separately. You can also make as many object lists as you want, as long as the reference is the memory game sheet.
- List down the object names that need to be found and hit print.
**note: Print as many copies as you want. If intended as a class activity, give each student a copy of the memory game sheet and the object list.
How to Play:
- Using the object list as reference, the child must search the corresponding image of the listed object name. Simply circle the object found.
- To make it more exciting and fun, use a timer. Give a time limit for the memory game and whoever found the most number of objects is declared the winner.
Mental health can be sustained by mental exercises such as solving puzzles, trivia games and yes, memory game sheets. Simple mind games help boost the brain’s memory support so it remains active and sharp.
